Sarcastische commentator ontdekt in Wave Race: Blue Storm

“That turbo’s wasted on you. If you don’t win this race, I’m not gonna love you anymore. Your wins are like diamonds: very rare. You are not yourself today, I noticed the improvement right away. You don’t have an inferiority complex, you’re just inferior. You must have a sixth sense because there’s no sign of the other five. Last lap, soon the agony will end.”

Negen jaar na de release van het spel is er een geheim ontdekt in het spel Wave Race: Blue Storm voor de GameCube. Door het invoeren van onder andere de Konami Code (!) op het optiescherm wordt de gebruikelijke commentator vervangen door een verveelde stem die al je fouten belachelijk maakt en de hele race voorziet van sarcastisch commentaar. Als een extra bonus is het geluid van de Turbo bovendien vervangen door een klein meisje dat “meow meow” roept. Hieronder een video ter illustratie, maar de grappigste citaten staan op het NeoGAF forum, waar de code ook is ontdekt.

Mijn vraag is waarom deze optie zo goed is verstopt? Het is hilarisch! Veel leuker dan die saaie normale commentaarstem. Het zou voor mij een reden zijn geweest om het spel te kopen, ondanks de matige recensies.

Voor wie het zelf wil ervaren, dit is hoe je de sarcastische commentator unlockt:

• Go to Options and Audio Settings.
• There’s a waveform display at the bottom that changes if you press the Z Button—tap Z until the waveform looks like vertically rising fog.
• On the D-Pad, press Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, A, X, Z. You’ll hear an audio cue if you did it right.
• Back out to the front end.
• Start a race. Pick the first guy.
• The pit crew voice will now be some dude who basically insults you the entire time. Also, the turbo becomes a little girl’s voice saying “meow meow”
